How to Make a vCard QR Code

Three steps, and no account needed.

Step 1

Fill in your details

Add what you want to share: your name, mobile and work numbers, email, website, company, job title and address. Leave out anything private.

Step 2

Check the phone numbers

Pick the country for each number, so it includes the calling code and works for contacts abroad.

Step 3

Scan it before you print

Download the code, scan it with your own phone and check the contact it offers to save.

What to Put on a Contact QR Code

Everything in the code ends up in someone else's contacts, so choose what goes in it.

Only what you'd hand out

Anyone who scans the code can read everything in it, so share a work number and email rather than personal ones.

The name people will search for

Your name and company are how you'll appear in their contacts, so use the ones people will look you up by.

A note on where you met

The note field can say something like the event's name, so the contact still makes sense months later.

As few fields as you need

Every field makes the pattern denser. On a small business card, fewer fields scan more reliably.

Where to Use a vCard QR Code

Anywhere someone might otherwise copy your details by hand.

Business cards

Put it on the back of the card so new contacts save you in one scan instead of typing.

Slides and email signatures

Add it to the last slide of a talk or to your email signature, for people reading on another screen.

Name badges and booths

Print it on event badges and booth signs so people can save you on the spot.

Counters and vans

Let customers save your business number from the counter, a receipt or the side of a van.
