How to Make a QR Code for a Link

Three steps, and no account needed.

Step 1

Paste your link

Copy the full address from your browser's address bar and paste it in. If you leave off https://, it's added for you.

Step 2

Tag it for your analytics (optional)

Add UTM tags, such as utm_source=flyer, so visits from the code show up separately in Google Analytics or a similar tool.

Step 3

Style, download and test

Add your logo and colors, download the code, then scan it to check it opens the right page before you print.

Before You Print a Link QR Code

A static code can't be changed once it's printed, so these are worth getting right first.

Check the page on a phone

Everyone who scans is on a phone. Make sure the page loads quickly and reads well on a small screen.

Link to the exact page

Send people straight to the menu, offer or form they came for, not to your home page.

Use a short, stable address

A long link makes a denser code that's harder to scan when small. Choose an address you won't move.

Tag it with UTM parameters

Tagged links show up as their own source in your analytics, so you can tell visits from the code apart from everything else.

Use HTTPS

Browsers mark plain http:// pages as not secure. If your site supports https://, use it.

Static or Dynamic: Which Link QR Code Do You Need?

Both open your page when scanned. The difference is what you can do after printing.

Static, free here

The link is stored in the code itself. It never expires and needs no account, but it can't be changed or tracked once it's printed.

Dynamic, with a free account

The code holds a short link you control, so you can change the destination after printing and see how often it's scanned. The free plan includes 2.

What People Link to with a QR Code

A link can go anywhere, but these are the pages people most often put on print.

Restaurant menus

Link table cards to your online menu or ordering page.

Property listings

Put a code on yard signs and flyers that opens the listing or virtual tour.

Product packaging

Link packaging to setup guides, warranty registration or a reorder page.

Review pages

Send happy customers straight to your Google review form while the visit is fresh.

Posters and direct mail

Print a tagged link on each placement to see which one brings the most visits.

Signs and notices

Point a sign at the page with the full details: opening hours, a timetable or an event schedule.
